About the Art

The Class 55 “Deltic” locomotives were among the most powerful diesel engines ever to run on British rails, dominating the East Coast Main Line from the early 1960s until their retirement in 1982. Their distinctive design and roaring Napier engines made them icons of speed and engineering innovation.

Based in Whittlesey, near Peterborough, Green is renowned for his detailed depictions of locomotives and railway scenes, including his celebrated Deltics at King’s Cross – 1979.
